Every Friday morning, the 6th graders go to the Pre-School classroom for 15-20 minutes. They find the Pre-Schoolers eager to see them! They often are waiting in the classroom with their favorite book in hand. The 6th graders then take the Pre-Schoolers to a comfortable spot and read aloud to them, or sit and enjoy the younger students sharing a book by flipping through the pages. Both of the classes love this activity.
James, a 6th grader, wrote the following about this activity in an article for the class newspaper: "After All-School meetings, the 6th grade reads children books to the Pre-School class. I like doing this, because when they grow up to be our age they will be better readers."
Here are some pictures of the children reading together!
