My philosophical framework on education includes an understanding of how children develop socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively.  With this understanding, I believe it is important to offer developmentally appropriate activities that provide challenges, as well as opportunities for successful outcomes.  I feel developing a positive self esteem is of utmost importance for young minds.  Once a positive self concept is created, children can conquer many challenges put before them.  They learn that a failure is not defeat, but an opportunity to master a new and different method to approach a situation.

I feel that exposing children to a broad curriculum is a necessity for a quality education.  A curriculum encompassing art, music, movement, language arts, drama, quality literature, mathematics, social studies and science provides an adequate basis for growth.  Young children have a natural interest to learn and it is the educator's role to act as a facilitator.  I believe in a student centered classroom, where the teacher sets the stage for an active learning environment.  Providing a 'hands on' approach allows for children to be active participants in the learning process with optimal success.

I believe it is also very important for an educator to develop a positive rapport with parents and encourage parent involvement in their children's growth and development.  Open communication between administrators, parents and teachers sets an example for the children, thus encouraging the importance of positive communication skills.

Above all, each child must be respected as a unique individual.  The educator as the leader must demonstrate the utmost respect for all and encourage children to respect each other.  Educators and children must work together to create a comfortable and healthy environment for minds and bodies to grow to their fullest potential.-------Miss Val
